Built by the seventeenth-century amalgamation of several tower-houses, Palazzo Baldeschi is made of terracotta and sandstone. Inside on the ground floor is TrasiMemo, the Trasimeno Memory Bank. This is a cultural innovation project where memories of ancient knowledge and craft practices are “staged” not as a legacy of the past but as a constituent element of local community cohesion. Visitors are greeted by the stories and direct accounts of the protagonists, provoking reflections on territorial potential and forms of future local development.
The objective of TrasiMemo is to promote slices of twentieth-century “culture” through the enjoyment of an “immersive” reality that highlights production and craft activities related to the traditions of yesterday and today: objects and knowledge of the past and practices of the present, artisans’ work tools, dialogue with each other through the voices of the protagonists. TrasiMemo is not a preservation space, saturated with showcased objects, which collects and preserves for the purpose of “contemplating” an idealized past; instead, it is an open, collaborative, interactive space, where the “exhibited” heritage, composed of memories, personal and family memories, testimonies, is revitalized to look to the future.
From the palace’s garden, full of flowers and aromatic plants, it is possible to admire a beautiful view of Lake Trasimeno and Polvese Island.
