THE “GIANNI RODARI” LIBRARY

THE LIBRARY HAS AROUND 34000 VOLUMES, AND ALSO A DVD COLLECTION SUITABLE FOR ALL AGES.

The Public Library “Gianni Rodari” opened in December 1983, at the ground floor of the Municipality, in the historical center of Corciano. In March 2001 the library institutions moved to San Mariano, with its seat inside a homestead from the 16th century, in the small town “La Commenda”: the building was property of the Knights of Malta and part of the small town of San Luca. The “Cabreo”, the land registry of the Order, updated every 25 years, record every change undergone by the homestead and its land since the 16th century up till the 19th century. Thanks to the restoration of this building Corciano was also included in the “Borghi più Belli d’Italia”, at the same time maintaing the original homestead characteristics even with the Library and the Historical Archive inside: the external staircase, the balcony, the well and the imposing elm which provides shade during the summer, the tool cabin and the emblem of the Knights carved in sandstone. It’s easy to find the building thanks to the road signage along Via Settembrini, it is also equipped with a large parking space, customers come from all over the territory. The library also provides assistance to the numerous foreign customers, and to the students for courses and internships. There is no entry fee and the book loans are constantly increasing. The Library has 34000 volumes and also a regularly updated dvd collection, suitable for all ages. There is also a free WiFi connection and it is possible to connect with your own device (computer, tablet, smartphone), an international magazine on politics, culture and current events is also available to read. The Public Library “Gianni Rodari” is a member of the “POLO REGIONALE SBN – UMI”, which means: interconnected cataloguing, shared services among the members, interlibrary loans and document delivery.
